what to do with all this time

I’ve got to spend it somewhere..

I’ve missed a lot of movies over the past few odd years. Sure. There’s a glut now. It’s hard to catch ‘em all. TV and movies. So many narratives to consume. Yum. Yum. Delicious media. I used to keep up. I used to be part of the conversation, or, at least, know the talking points.

Spending a lot of time on a couch with your favorite person through the course of a pandemic will alter your watching patterns. There’s time and space. You have to fill a lot of time and space. Sure, there was times when we wanted to dig in, really meal it up with something heavy. But mostly, like 33 seasons of The Amazing Race mostly, we wanted something to ignore and enjoy alongside. Add being a primary caregiver on top of that, and consumption of visual media has dropped drastically.

But music. MUSIC. Sweet, beautiful, music. Music can play, fill the space, inspire or conspire with a mood. We’ve mostly avoided kid’s music around here. There’s repetition,, sure, but E’s favorite song is Danka Shoen. That’s a great fucking song to listen to a thousand times. I’ve also tried to remain vigorous in my pursuit and appreciation of a wide range of music. I battle the algorithms and ease. There’s a glut, but I’m stuffing myself full and asking for more.

With an influx of free time, I figured catch up on movies. Instead, I fall further behind. A soft wind blows through the window, a new playlist dances through the air, and I lounge on the couch playing Balatro on Switch. It’s a card game. I'm addicted. Bye bye day.

As Billy Joel says, “It's alright, you can afford to lose a day or two.”
