balloon

It’s hard to let go of a balloon
To release control
To let it fly
Alone
You don’t know where it will go
How far it may travel
If it will be safe
If it will ever come home
It’s hard to let go of a balloon
Balloons are sort of magic aren’t they
The tenuous string
Tied to that fragile shell
The way it brings a smile to your face
To even hold it for a while
To watch it dance
Affected by everything
You could keep it inside of course
That is always an option
A solid fearful option
Go on
Witness it knock against the ceiling
Brush up against the walls
All the same spaces
Forever
Until eventually
It deflates in front of your eyes
It’s hard to let go
But it is necessary
Is it?
Magic should never be hindered
Contained
There’s a world out there to discover
And who am I to hold it back
